FR-100 Powder and FR-200 Liquid Concentrate formulas represent the first fully qualified aerial LTRs listed on the Qualified Products List (QPL) by a new supplier in over 22 years, thus bringing competitive bidding to future LTR contracts and simultaneously ending the sole-sourced LTR era. Fortress LTRs will soon be commercially available and cleared for aerial usage in all of North America and other countries that utilize the USFS QPL as the “standard” of approval for purchase.

The Operational Field Evaluation (OFE) of FORTRESS® FR-200 has successfully concluded, poising FR-200 for imminent approval by the United States Forest Service (USFS). FR-200 is the third product in the FORTRESS fire retardant portfolio to complete all USFS product qualification testing, complimenting FORTRESS’ current offering of aerial dry powder long term fire retardant (FR-100) and ground-applied liquid fire retardant (FR-600).

In February 2021 the U.S. Forest Service awarded a contract to design and build a 16,000-gallon mobile retardant mixing tank for the air tanker base at Medford, Oregon. The agency wanted the ability to relocate the tank during the off-season and needed one large enough to refill very large air-tankers (VLAT). Fortress delivered the tank/trailer in Medford on May 24.

Fortress will be conducting a real-world test of their product this year in Montana. When fully approved, it will be the first newly formulated long-term retardant product to make it onto the Forest Service’s Qualified Products List in over two decades. The retardant has successfully completed all US Forest Service laboratory tests for fire retardancy, toxicity, corrosion, and viscosity.
